Background Statement:

  • The Community Health Center (CHC) is a private, non-profit entity under the sponsorship of the Islamic Society of Baltimore a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • CHC was founded by a group of concerned citizens to meet the health needs of the community of the Baltimore County and the surrounding area.
  • CHC relies on volunteers and staff to reach out to people of all ages and walks of life that have difficulty accessing healthcare due to financial constraints or lack of insurance coverage.
  • Viewed as the net beneath the 'safety net providers' of the public health system, the ISB Community Health Center currently operates out of one facility with a vision to open a satellite facility in Baltimore City.
  • The ISB Community Health Center opened on August 21, 2006 and has been providing free healthcare to the uninsured.
  • In March of 2007 the ISB Community Health Center which was previously located within the ISB School and comprised of one room moved its operations into an independent location adjacent to ISB.
  • CHC is committed to providing quality, compassionate, free health care, in a non-judgmental environment, to anyone in the community who is without access to basic care.

Statement from Executive Director:

As CHC moves to its new location and continues to provide quality services, at no charge, to people without access to basic care, the biggest challenge CHC faces is the ever-expanding number of people in need of health care along with a shrinking base of resources to care for them.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported in August 2006 that an additional million people joined the ranks of the uninsured bringing our nation’s uninsured to over 46.5 million. In Maryland, according to the Census Bureau approximately 14% of the population is uninsured.
[1] Baltimore County has a total population of 721,880.[2]

According to the Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP) there are 16,000 children and 70,000 uninsured adults in Baltimore County.[2] The impact of the CMC’s volunteers and staff is evident in the lives of the people we serve.
