Mission
The Islamic Society of Baltimore is a non profit organization serving the
religious, social, and cultural needs of the Baltimore Muslim community.
Foundation
The Islamic Society of Baltimore was established in 1969, where a handful of
mainly immigrant Muslim families used to hold weekly meetings and Friday prayers
at Johns Hopkins University. As the community grew there was a need for an
established facility. In 1982, ISB purchased an 8-acre lot off Johnnycake Road
in the western part of Baltimore County and built the Mosque (Masjid Al Rahmah).
Several years later a housing complex was built next to the Masjid. Today, the
compound also includes a fulltime school, a community hall, a kitchen, as well
as a computer training facility.
Current Status
Far from its limited beginning, ISB today provides a wide array of services
to Muslims as well as non-Muslims allover the Baltimore metropolitan area.
Currently, we are in the process of developing a ‘Community Learning Center’
on our existing premises. The proposed center will be designed and constructed
to provide adequate training environment, classrooms and laboratories to conduct
educational programs. This will include computer technology, language classes
and many other courses to enhance social and economic benefits to the community
at large. It will provide adequate space for lectures, seminars, conferences and
community meetings.
For verification of non-profit/tax-exempt status, the Maryland and Federal IRS certificates are available on file and at our office during business hours. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
